Biography

Terry Martin has expertise is in Russia and Eastern Europe, and Soviet formation of national identity and nationalities policy. He is the author of The Affirmative Action Empire: Nations and Nationalism in the Soviet Union, 1923-1939, Cornell UP (2001), and co-author of A State of Nations: Empire and Nation-Building in the Age of Lenin and Stalin with Ronald Grigor Suny, Oxford UP (2001).

His current research project is titled "Politics and Sociology of State Information-Gathering in the USSR from the Revolution through the Death of Stalin."
